- Scanning happens on your phone. Finding, cutting out and tagging garments runs on your device.
- Your face never leaves your device. Automatic Gallery Scan uses an on-device face signature that is never uploaded or synced. Off by default.
- Nothing is added without you. Scan results and gallery finds stay suggestions until you tap Save or Add.
- Only the garment syncs. Sync uploads the cut-out garment image — never the original photo, never a photo of you.
Wardrobe AI ("we", "our", "the app") helps you catalog your wardrobe and get outfit recommendations. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and what control you have over it.
Information we collect#
- Account info: your email address and name, from Google Sign-In or email/password registration.
- Wardrobe data: photos of your clothing items, and attributes detected from them (category, color, pattern, material, fit, etc).
- Style profile: height, body shape, face shape, skin tone, gender, and region, if you choose to enter them — used only to tailor recommendations.
- Location: coarse or precise location, only if you grant permission, used to fetch local weather for weather-appropriate outfit suggestions.
- Style-profile photo (optional): if you choose "fill these in from a photo", that photo is sent once to a third-party AI service (Google) to estimate your body shape, face shape and skin colour/undertone, then deleted immediately. We don't store it, and the estimates are only suggestions you can change.
- Phone number (optional): if you add one to your community profile it is stored with your account and is visible only to you — never on your public profile or to other users.
- Voice (optional): if you use the microphone in the AI Stylist chat, your speech is converted to text by your phone's own speech recognition service (Apple or Google, under their privacy terms). We receive only the resulting text, exactly as if you had typed it — the app does not store recordings.
- Community content: posts, stories, comments, likes, follows, and your community profile, if you use the community features.
- Try-on photos: a photo of you, only if you use the AI try-on feature, sent to our try-on provider to generate a preview image.
- Facial signature: if you turn on Automatic Gallery Scan, we generate a numeric representation of your face from your reference photo(s), entirely on your device. See "Automatic Gallery Scan" below for what this is and isn't.
- Gallery access: if you use Manual or Automatic Gallery Scan, the app reads photos from your device's gallery to look for wardrobe items in them.
- Usage data: which features you use and how often, including AI feature usage counts (so we can keep the service running within reasonable limits).
- Subscription and credit records: your plan, trial and renewal dates, your AI credit balance and how credits were used (for example "AI try-on" or "chat"), and the purchase receipts or payment references returned by Google Play, the App Store or our UPI payment partner. We never receive or store your card, bank or UPI credentials — those stay with the store or payment provider.
- Security events: if the app detects that its on-device AI files were modified, or that it is running under a debugger or instrumentation tool, it deletes those files and keys and sends our servers a short report (which file, what failed, your account and platform). Repeated reports can pause access to the on-device models for that account.
- Downloaded on-device files: when you set up Automatic Gallery Scan the app downloads the face-recognition files from our server once. Downloading them reveals only that your account requested the file.
Automatic Gallery Scan#
Automatic Gallery Scan looks through your photo gallery for pictures of you wearing clothes. Every photo it looks at is processed and stays entirely on your device — nothing is added to your wardrobe, and nothing leaves your phone, unless one of the outcomes below actually puts it there:
- A photo we're confident shows you is staged as a suggestion under Browse by Garment — still not in your wardrobe yet, and still entirely on-device, until you tap "Add to wardrobe" on it yourself.
- A photo we're less confident about lands in your Possible Matches instead, for you to approve or remove.
- A photo we don't think shows you at all — no face found, or a face that doesn't match — is skipped and never touched again. It was still processed on your device to make that determination, but nothing about it is kept, staged, or uploaded.
- Only once you explicitly add something — from Browse by Garment, or by approving a Possible Matches item — does it become a real wardrobe item, and only then does the question of cloud sync (see "Where your data is stored" below) apply to it at all.
Because it needs to tell you apart from anyone else in a photo, it requires a facial signature generated from your reference photo(s) — here's exactly what that involves:
- The facial signature is a list of numbers describing your face, generated on your device. It is not a photo, and it can't be turned back into one.
- Generating it, comparing it against your photos, and deciding whether a photo contains you all happen entirely on your device. Your photos and this facial signature are never uploaded, and we never see them.
- It's used only to answer one question — "is this the person who set up this app?" — never to identify or build a profile of anyone else who happens to appear in your photos.
- Automatic Gallery Scan is off by default and requires your explicit consent before it turns on. You can turn it off at any time from Profile → Automatic Gallery Scan — doing so stops background scanning immediately; scanning a photo manually still works.
- Turning off Automatic Gallery Scan, removing your reference photo(s), or deleting your account all delete the facial signature from your device — it doesn't sit around unused.
How your data is processed#
Clothing detection, cutting garments out of photos, matching garments to your wardrobe and predicting attributes run on your device — those photos don't leave your phone unless you're signed in and sync is on. When you're signed in, your wardrobe and profile sync to our server so you can use the app across devices and use community/AI features.
Some features call third-party AI providers with the minimum data needed to perform the request:
- Google (Sign-In, and its AI services for the AI stylist chat, outfit explanations and understanding what you ask for). Chat messages are sent as text together with details about your wardrobe items such as colour and category — not your photos.
- Google's image-generation service (virtual try-on, using a photo of you and the items you select).
- Google Play, the Apple App Store and our UPI payment partner (to process subscription and credit purchases).
- Google Shopping and affiliate partners (to suggest products, when you use shopping recommendations).
Where your data is stored#
Wardrobe data lives locally on your device (so the app works offline) and, if you've enabled syncing, on our servers so it can sync across devices. Signing in and syncing is required to use cross-device and community/AI features — this section explains exactly what that sync does and doesn't include, so it's a clear, informed choice rather than a hidden default.
- For a wardrobe item added via gallery scan, sync only ever uploads the cropped, background-removed image of the garment itself — never the original photo it came from, and never a photo showing you. This is enforced in how the app builds the sync upload, not just described here.
- Your facial signature is never included in sync, on any account or plan — it's stored only on your device.
- Your Try-On photo, if you use AI Try-On, is stored so the feature keeps working across app sessions, and is sent to our try-on provider only when you actually generate a try-on image (see "How your data is processed").
Your choices and rights#
- Edit or remove individual wardrobe items, profile fields, or posts at any time in the app.
- Control location, camera, photo and microphone permissions from your device settings at any time.
- Turn Automatic Gallery Scan on or off, and review or remove anything it finds, from Profile → Automatic Gallery Scan.
- Turn "Help improve WardrobeAI" on or off at any time from Profile → Data & Privacy — see below.
- Delete your account from Profile → Delete Account. This permanently removes your account and everything tied to it — wardrobe, profile, posts, follows — from our servers, and erases the app's data on this device too (wardrobe database, garment, profile and face photos, face data, settings and scheduled reminders). This cannot be undone. If a different account later signs in on the same device, the previous account's local data is cleared first.
- Uninstalling the app removes all data stored only on your device.
Help improve WardrobeAI (optional)#
Off by default. If you turn this on from Profile → Data & Privacy, you're letting us use some of your activity and, in specific cases, real photos to help train and improve future versions of our detection and recommendation models. Only data from accounts with this turned on is ever used for that purpose — everyone else's data is used only to run the app for them, exactly as described elsewhere in this policy.
With this on, we may use:
- Which outfit recommendations you liked or disliked.
- Corrections you make to a detected attribute (for example, fixing a color or category the model predicted) — we already store the model's prediction alongside your corrected value to power the app itself; with this on, that pair may also be used for training.
- Photos and details you submit through "Report an issue" (on a wardrobe item or an AI Try-On result) — unlike normal wardrobe sync, a report you submit while this is on does include a real photo of the item or scene, because that's what actually improves a detection model. Reports are always optional to submit, and always tell you up front whether a photo will be attached.
Turning this off stops future collection immediately — it doesn't retroactively delete reports or corrections already contributed while it was on. You can turn it off any time from Profile → Data & Privacy.
Data retention#
We keep your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete the associated data from our servers immediately, except where we're legally required to keep something longer. To keep the free trial to one per person, we retain a one-way hash of your email address (not the address itself) after deletion.
Security#
Passwords are stored using salted, iterated hashing (PBKDF2) — we never store your plain-text password. We use industry-standard practices to protect your data, but no method of storage or transmission is 100% secure.
Children#
Wardrobe AI is not directed at children under 16, and we don't knowingly collect data from anyone under that age.
Changes to this policy#
We may update this policy as the app changes. We'll update the "Last updated" date above when we do.
